Pros: Staff were friendly and polite, bedroom was spotless and good value for money with everything u need for your stay.

Cons: Inconsistent water pressure in taps.

Perfect base for the Eskdale hills

Pros: The bar area was lively and busy on both nights, made to feel welcome and a great choice of beers and food. Atmosphere was very friendly and the bar was full of regulars which is always a good sign. Enjoyed both my evening meals, had a Japanese dish and a lasagne but the choice was really good for all tastes, reasonably priced too.

Cons: Breakfast was good but would have benefitted from some grapefruit and prunes being available and also yogurt . Prefer my toast separate from the cooked breakfast plate in a rack, two slices were presented on the plate alongside my cooked breakfast. Tasty though

Lovely country pub near Scarfell

Pros: Fantastic pub with delicious food ang great atmosphere

Cons: The room was very small and shower over the bath quite basic and hard to regulate as the water was very hot !

Wonderful place to stay

Pros: We stay here couple of times a year and we love it. The Landlord remembers us and really makes us feel welcome. The pub is very homely and the food is amazing. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The area around is absolutely stunning.

Definitely recommend and I will be going back

Pros: The bar man / manager remembered my name from the get go, he didn’t have to do that at all but it added a personal touch. A proper pub with hearty portions. The steak ale pie was exceptional and the chocolate brownie was really tasty. Breakfast also very good. A great place to stay if you were walking/ hiking.

Amazing help from Emily

Pros: When I found myself stranded at Ravenglass train station on a Sunday night at 8 pm with no taxi service open, I called the Bower Inn and spoke to a very helpful and understanding lady called Emily, once Emily had listened to my dilemma, she came and picked me up in her own car and when I arrived the kitchen was closed and again Emily went above and beyond and made me a sandwich. Which was very welcome after an all day train journey to get there from the south coast. Well done Emily and thank you.

Cons: Although the room was lovely it was above the bar & was very noisy at closing time..

Pros: Pleasant room, helpful staff. Food in the restaurant was very good, would recommend booking a table if eating there. Very atmospheric, old pub in a great location for the western lakes.

Cons: Stair carpets could be updated perhaps?
