The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel is situated in Newton Stewart in picturesque Wigtownshire, in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. It features a restaurant and elegant rooms with original features. The hotel building is 300 years old and our rooms do vary in size and shape. We do like to show a range of room sizes in our photos but this does also mean that our largest rooms can get booked up quickly so we cannot guarentee you will get the room in the picture. The stylish rooms each have a TV and complimentary tea/coffee facilities. The modern bathrooms have complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. Located at the front of the hotel, the Queen Street Bar & Restaurant is open to both the public and residents. With booth seats, it is occasionally host to live acoustic music and a live band on a Saturday evening. It features two large TVs and a pool table. With luxurious seating, the Knights restaurant serves an a la carte menu and a selection of after dinner drinks. Surrounded by scenic Dumfries and Galloway countryside, Crown Hotel is a 10-minute drive from Wigtown Bay. Free parking is available, and the beautiful Loch Ken is just a 30-minute drive away.

very comfortable and enjoyable

Pros: the hotel was lovely. very pleasant dining room but I chose to go into the public bar first which was also very pleasant with a real log fire. thoroughly enjoyed my 2 night stay.

Food was excellent, staff were super friendly and the cost was very reasonable

Pros: It was very convenient for our trip to Scotland’s Book Town. As I have some mobility problems we were kindly offered ground floor accommodation.

Cons: Some of the furniture was far too large for our accommodation and our bed was much too soft.

Comfortable, clean accommodation, friendly and helpful staff, great food and bar - perfect!

Pros: I really appreciated the gluten free toast and full breakfast options. The junior suite was ideal, more than ideal. I was looking for two single rooms but the suite ticked that box and more, with its comfortable living room and kitchen. Lovely accommodation that I would recommend to others. All the staff were brilliant.

Cons: No complaints!

Great location and value, off street parking, great staff and restaurant.

Pros: With one exception, everything was fine. Lovely staff, good food, pleasant ambiance and decor, very clean and all the facilities worked perfectly.

Cons: One mattress in our room was a bit tired - lop-sided, down on the left. This was the side normally sat on so I guess it had collapsed a bit. No big deal but made the night less comfortable.

Pros: Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast and service. Well set out dining room. Lovely people. The room was ok, nothing special but it had everything we needed. It was just a place to crash after a night drinking with old friends so perfectly fine.

Cons: Rooms, beds and decor were a bit dated but not terrible.

Very comfy night and great breakfast

Pros: Breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. The decor in the restaurant area and reception was great. Good coffee and tea facilities and cookies are always nice. A free bottle of water was a great touch.

Cons: The room was small and a little spartan: white paint and old furniture but fine for a night's stay

Enjoyed our one night stay.

Pros: You pre booked your breakfast with the staff the night before. There were some cereals and fruit as well as apple and orange juice. The cooked breakfast was tasty and served with tea and coffee and toast. The staff were so friendly and efficient.
