Brilliant stay, down to earth, very friendly and helpful staff.
Pros: Excellent food both here and at their sister pub down the road. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and good quality. Full credit to a wonderful chef. The Hall is set in a lovely location, with a variety of chickens, peacocks, geese etc roaming free. They are very dog friendly and you can take them into the bar area. Although they can't run free in the main grounds, there are woods immediately behind, where dogs can be let off. Highly recommend this gem of a place - already booked for next Christmas!
Cons: It lacks 2 things - an open fire in the main building. There was a noticeable difference in atmosphere, when entering the function room for Christmas dinner. The fire in the centre of the room made a huge difference and people were using the bar. The 2nd point, is a wider variety of non alcoholic drinks including mocktails. I was disappointed with the limited choice and feel the Hall is leaving a large gap in the clientele, especially walkers and drivers.

Pros: We stayed in tge click tower, views and grounds beautiful, tge building lovely to look at.
Cons: I had tge very top room in tge clock tower, it felt cold overnight, the duvet to thin along with the pillows they need replacing. The electric shower a little dated, no very powerful and the skylight window needed a blind fitted to omit drafts and block out light. Very well stocked with utensils but couldn't find a hoover, rhat eould have been handy, and prosecco glasses would be a nice extra.

Practical self catering and good location
Pros: We stayed in a two bedroom cottage and it was exactly how they described. On arrival, it was easy to pick up the key to the cottage on Reception. The gentleman was friendly and explained where we could park and that everything would be on at the cottage. They did offer the facility to book an evening meal in their bar, but we were self catering. The heating was preset and on so the cottage was warm. They do offer a basic support package so they were clean towels and clean bedding. There was plenty of hot water and a Christmas tree which was nice. They don’t offer extras such as extra pillows or bedding. It is very handy for the station at Ravenglass. It was nice to see the peacocks, geese, and hens wandering about outside. The children loved the dog and cat who live at the hotel they were very friendly.
Cons: I think for us, the main challenge was the very bright security lighting that they have externally to the front of the cottage. The two single bed room is at the front of the property and has a thin white curtain meaning that it didn’t get really dark all night because of the lights given the children are used to sleeping in the dark we would need a blackout blind in that room if we ever returned because the children struggled to sleep. The kitchen offers basic crockery and pans. So for example I needed to have brought my own bowls for the children to eat porridge because the ones they provide are too small for 30 g ! There was a pan to make Bolognese, but no lid! I think it’s worth noting that they do take dogs so evidence of them e.g. Smell is within the cottages.
